Nauiyu: Our World, Our Community

Merrepen Arts and Music Festival is held annually in the welcoming community of Nauiyu, located 240 kilometres south-west of Darwin.

Originally large-format, organisers scaled down the festival to increase the focus on community.

Merrepen Arts Manager Cathy Laudenbach says this free, family-friendly event presents the opportunity to embrace the Nauiyu community.

“This event is important to bring positive attention to this creative and dynamic community, and for visitors to be able to see first-hand the art and culture of the region,” she says.

“It really is a festival for everyone.”

There is so much packed in to two days including food and art stalls, cultural tours, ceramic pot decorating with well-known ceramic artist Heidi Strachan, a jumping castle, music performances including local band Niniuch, and painting workshops – you can even print your own tea towel! The Merrepen Gallery has specials running throughout the weekend, including 25 per cent off all screen-printed fabric.

Free camping is available but bookings are essential. So head down to Daly and experience Nauiyu.
