Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival
The Nightcliff Seabreeze Festival is expanding its wings from a single day breezing along the foreshore, to two full weeks of festive fun.
Over the last few years the crew behind the festival have noticed more and more people wanting to be involved, who couldn’t always make their event happen on the day or on the foreshore.
Festival coordinator Bryn Wackett says the Seabreeze Sideshows straddling the main day means the action is spread over two weeks throughout the northern suburbs.
“Just because you’re not situated on the foreshore, doesn’t mean you can’t be part of the Seabreeze program,” she says.
“If something wasn’t able to be done on the big day, that business or organisation would say ‘I want to do this but I’ll do it the day before’, and we would be thrilled and say, ‘my goodness we’ll promote it for you’.
“It grew from there.”
The main event will sees the Night-cliff foreshore transform into more than one kilometre of activities.
A new music stage has been born at the old Seabreeze Hotel site after Cyclone Marcus ripped through and left parts of the foreshore unusable.
“(The hotel) got blown over in Tracy,” Wackett says.
“We said 'let’s use this old site to celebrate that we’ve come out the other side of Marcus and survived the second most damaging cyclone since Tracy'.”
A Day on the Foreshore sees plenty of action, kicking off with a sand sculpture competition. There will be music stages staggered throughout, with the Foreshore Café Acoustic Stage, the Top End Folk Club and Sunset Music Session Stage and, of course, the main Banyan Tree Music Stage.
For the Seabreeze Sideshows there'll be a creative experience at the Aralia Street shops on offer, environmental nature walks with the NT Field Naturalists Club and a sunset soiree among the bursting program.
