THE NORTHERN TERRITORY Art Award, led by Darwin Visual Arts (DVA), showcases the depth, diversity and brilliance of Northern Territory artists. Held every two years, the Award is open to artists and creatives across the Territory.

From traditional forms to contemporary experimentation, the exhibition captures the richness and variety of Territory creativity. Across painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media and installation, audiences can expect a collection of works that challenge, celebrate and spark conversation.

This year sees the Award expand in partnership with Charles Darwin University, with the finalists’ exhibition held at the striking new Midpul Gallery in the heart of Darwin. This fresh collaboration signals an exciting future for the Award while creating even more opportunities to showcase local artistic talent.

Step into a vibrant showcase of stories

A total prize pool of $10,000 is awarded across four winning categories, including a People’s Choice award, inviting visitors to have their say on the standout works of the exhibition.

“One of the strongest parts of the selection process was seeing the breadth of perspectives and practices coming from across the Territory”, says Thymiandisus.

“It was exciting to see a mix of emerging voices alongside the iconic works from established local Territorian artists. There’s a real sense of confidence in this year’s submissions.”

Visitors can also join a one-hour guided tour on Sat 27 from 11am, offering a closer look at selected works. Led by Curator Ioanna Thymianidus, the tour encourages audiences to consider the materials, process and decision-making behind the artworks, encouraging viewers to look beyond first impressions and engage more deeply with the stories being told.
