Comics' Corner - Local Comedy Form Guide
A COMEDY RENAISSANCE is taking place in the Top End, and 2021 is shaping up to be an exciting time to catch comedy. Will Crawford’s put together this handy form guide with some tips on local gems.
Amy Hetherington
The Makybe Diva of Darwin comedy. undisputed three-time champ. A loveable, thoroughbred observational comic, who will surely win your hearts.
Brent Watkinson
A likeable and cheeky stand-up, that always gets his audience to the finish line with a smile. An excessively hairy, wombat-like creature, reminiscent of a Hobbit. It’s lucky he works in radio.
Danica Jenner
An emerging comedy superstar. Jenner looks so young, she’s still not allowed to ride the blue tube at Leanyer Water Park unaccompanied yet.
Danielle Andrews
A versatile stayer and a storytelling and improvisational powerhouse. A triple threat – comedian, children’s performer and Darwin’s number one Cher impersonator.
Mel Little
A mature mare that has held the comic glue factory at bay with her dry, biting and sassy comedy styling. Always guaranteed to keep you entertained, Mel is an endurance specialist, so settle in, grab your fourth glass of red and enjoy the show.
James Parfitt
James is everyone’s fun uncle, with a heart as big as Phar Lap’s. A former gym junky – but judging by his recent form, his favourite gym machine is now the vending machine.
Paul Seden
An emerging comedy colt and monumental talent. My biggest tip to hit the big time in 2021. With Norm McDonald-esque story-telling and virtuoso jokes, you’ll think you’re in his backyard – mainly because Paul wears his stubby shorts at every gig.
Richard Fejo Snr
A Darwin comedic treasure. This funny, warm comedian is one of the most loved blokes in local comedy. Just don’t tell his wife.
Enjoy monthly gigs at Happy Yess on the first and third Thursdays of the month, Lucky Bat on the last Wednesday, Landmark on the last Thursdays, and at the Buff Club on Saturdays. Keep your eyes peeled for a funny night out with these superstars of Darwin comedy.
