In Your Blood
The sports field meets the dance floor at Darwin Festival for Tracks Dance’s latest production.
In Your Blood looks across generations, cultures and sporting codes to find what makes people tick, and features a huge cast of dancers from Darwin’s Balinese and Sri Lankan community in an outdoor theatre.
Dancer Vaneska Cheliah says the show is a great opportunity to see a huge number of locals on stage sharing something they love.
“Our cast is so diverse,” she says.
“We all share this passion for dance and some have a huge passion for sport.”Cricket and footy take a lead role in the show, as does a contemporary twist on traditional music, which producer James Mangohig has enjoyed the challenge of creating.
“The roots of deep cultural music around the world are so sophisticated and intricate, getting my brain around it is really challenging,” he says.
“I hope to highlight the beautiful rhythms and melodies that are coming from (Bali and Sri Lanka).”
Mangohig says the show is great for anyone who loves dance, sport or music.
“For people who wouldn’t necessarily go to a dance show, but love sport, there will be a cheeky humour that comes though,” he says.
“You’ll also find out more about the community you live in.”
