SPUN: Rewind
The Territory’s only live storytelling night is returning this Build Up with a special event that turns back the clock to reveal six decades’ worth of stories in one cracking night.
SPUN: Rewind features Darwin storytellers with fabulous tales from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and the new millennium.
This special event will gather six local storytellers on stage to share the tales that helped shape this wild, vibrant town into what it is today.
From the unexplored final frontier, to the impact of Cyclone Tracy, a recent growth spurt and the perspective of those who’ve left and come back, locals take us back to their haunts, hoods and hangout spots to share their true, personal stories – all about their Darwin.
We all know that Darwin is very different to anywhere else in Australia, but how was it 30, 40 and 50 years ago?
Creative Producer Jess Ong says while it may have been a wildly different place back then, there’s one thing about Darwin through the decades that hasn’t changed.
“Her refusal to conform. She continues to dance to the beat of her own drum, and I think that’s what helps make this tropical town so intoxicating.”
Why six decades? 60 years ago, the people of Darwin elected a city council and, in celebration, the council is partnering with SPUN to put on this jubilee show.
The night will be an intimate one at Brown’s Mart Theatre, so be sure to book early if you want to get a seat. If you miss out, never fear – in a SPUN first, you can also purchase a ticket to sit outside in Brown’s Mart’s outdoor courtyard and listen to the live event through wireless headphones, while soaking in the warm evening.
Don't dilly-dally however, as tickets not collected before 6pm risk re-allocation, such is the demand for this local storytelling event.
