Seven Deadly Sinners
Seven of the best NT comedians – and self-confessed sinners – lay bare their wretched souls in the biggest NT comedy show yet.
Top End Comedy has come a long way, baby. From the Happy Yess and annual Laugh-It-Off, to the Beachfront Hotel, RAW Comedy finals and Darwin Fringe, the Darwin-based comedy group is holding its first stand-up show at the Darwin Entertainment Centre.
Featuring Ben Stevenson as Gluttony, Justin Crooks (Greed), Nicole Stevens (Wrath), Andi Egan (Lust), Danielle Andrews (Pride), Ryan McArthur (Envy) and Chris Little (Sloth), the theme initially arose from the magic number of comedians, but was an all-too-easy fit.
“It was very easy to work out which sins these comedians were going to be,” admits MC Amy Hetherington.
“There was never a doubt that Ben Stevenson would be Gluttony. That guy eats a lot of chicken nuggets. Ryan Macarthur as envy was a surprise. It made sense though because his material has a lot of self-deprecation.”
Landing the Entertainment Centre is an impressive achievement and proof Darwin’s comedy scene is coming of age.
“This is the first time we’ve had a show at the Entertainment Centre so we’re really proud of it,” says Hetherington.
The addition of Alice Springs comedian Chris Little means this is a Territory-wide show of talent, and looks to be the next step on the comedy ladder.
“Each of the shows in Top End Comedy leads to another level,” says Hetherington.
