Festival Returns with Wide Open Arms

The crew at Wide Open Space Festival (WOS) gave themselves some breathing space in 2019, but are returning recharged and full of energy in 2020.

The festival has drawn revellers and families to the unique event in the heart of Central Australia for the last decade, and Director Scott Large says a hiatus this year has allowed the team to rejuvenate.

“After 10 years, we wanted to stop and take a deep breath and look at what we’re trying to achieve, what we could do better and what the event meant to the community and to us as the crew. Obviously, we’re not the same people we were 10 years ago, and our priorities have shifted. And Alice Springs has changed as a town in the last 10 years,” he says.

One of the main achievements this year is getting a new team on board to inject some fresh ideas and energy. If you’re looking to meet the team and get involved, applications are open for musicians, artists and creatives who want to be part of the 2020 festival.

“We’re excited to see what’s out there in the community bubbling away,” Large says.

“We’re always looking for a couple of things – innovation, and new and exciting ideas, and we like ideas that are well realised or have opportunities for people to collaborate.”

While the deadline for musicians, other artists and performers is looming, Large’s hot tip is to get in early.

“Get your applications in early rather than waiting until the last minute. We tend to get a flood in, and by that stage, we’ve already been looking at what’s coming through and starting to plan,”
he says.

Keen to just head along for three days of dusty delight? Keep an eye out for the first line up drop in early 2020.
