The Fast Five – Ella Hooper
Killing Heidi formed in the Victorian country town of Violet Town in 1996, winning triple j Unearthed later that year for their tune ‘Kettle’. Two decades later, they are still making music and join Aussie music stalwart James Reyne (Australian Crawl) for One Tropical Day this Father’s Day eve. Killing Heidi’s Ella Hooper answered The Fast Five for Off The Leash.
1. What’s the first album you ever bought?
Veruca Salt’s American Thighs. I believe the money was a gift, probably birthday money, because we didn't get pocket money. And it was purchased at Sanity Shepparton, the Maude Street Mall, baby!
2. If you could see any artist or band – living or dead – this weekend, who would it be?
I'd kill to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, right now on their 40-year anniversary tour – or back in the 70s if time travel were possible.
3. Whose posters did you have stuck to the wall as a teenager?
PJ Harvey and The Spice Girls. I’ve always loved my low brow/high brow.
4. What song would you like played at your funeral?
Oooh, good question. Maybe ‘Sweet Thing’ or ‘Madame George’ by Van Morrison.
5. Finish this sentence. The thing people would be surprised to know about me...
Is that I dislike showering and find personal hygiene both boring and a struggle, yet people often comment that I smell nice and that I have very soft skin - so go figure!
Killing Heidi play with James Reyne at the Darwin Ski Club for One Tropical Day, Sat 2 Sep.
