Darwin Symphony Orchestra – Queen
Joined by some of Australia’s finest rock musicians and singers for an evening celebrating the music of one of the biggest rock bands in history, the Darwin Symphony Orchestra (DSO) is bringing the music of Queen to life in a long anticipated event at the Gardens Amphitheatre.

It is a daunting task, covering one of the most iconic rock music groups of the last century, however it isn’t the first time the DSO has taken on performing the music of a big name rock and roll ensemble, having covered the Beatles, ABBA, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd in previous years.
Formed in 1970, Queen became one of the greatest stadium rock bands of the early 1980s with hits like ‘We Will Rock You’, ‘We Are The Champions’ and ‘Another One Bites The Dust’. Fronted by the iconic Freddie Mercury, the band’s theatrical music style lends itself easily to operatic and orchestral performances. Freddie Mercury was a huge fan of operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé, collaborating with her for his Barcelona album, recreating his long held dream to combine rock and opera.
The evening’s performance is conducted by Matthew Wood and features Concertmaster Monica Naselow, who has been settling in nicely since taking up the position earlier this year. With just a gold coin donation needed for entry – making it an affordable night for the whole family – Darwinites are in for an absolute treat.
