IT’S EASTER TIME! But where to get your chocolate fix? If ever there was a time to throw support behind local business, it’s now.
Located in Berrimah, Charlotte’s Web Chocolate Factory first opened its doors in October 2018. Owner Kristy McInnes says her sweet business came from unexpected events.
“We lost everything when our other business, NT Adventure Park, went up in flames in 2017,” she says.
“After that, I thought it was now or never. Making chocolate had been a hobby of mine for 11 years, and I’d always wanted to open a chocolate factory. Some friends of mine encouraged me to start selling my chocolates at Christmas markets, and each year, the line-up to buy our chocolates was even longer, so I knew there was something there.”
Charlotte’s Web began stocking chocolates at Deckchair Cinema in early 2018, the cinema supplying sweet treats for film fans ever since. Ingredients are sourced locally and include things like mangoes that are dehydrated and coated in brown deliciousness.
Despite being open for just 14 months, Charlotte’s Web has already scored some serious accolades, including the Reader’s Choice 2020 – Café in the Australian Good Food Guide Awards. And with Easter here, there are some special treats on the menu.
“Our half eggs will blow you away! They’re large half chocolate eggs filled with chocolate mousse and ganache. We’re also hoping to run some fun Easter workshops, where families can design, make and eat their chocolates in the factory,” she says.
“Of course, we also have some uniquely Territorian treats, with our Crocolates. All of our chocolate is gluten free and we also have vegan chocolate available.”
The chocolate factory is open five days a week, and offers light lunch options as well as tea and coffee. There’s also the opportunity to tuck into a tasting plate – say hello to three tiers of chocolate-coated dried fruits, truffles and, their specialty, chocolate bark.
So this year, instead of opting for Easter bunnies and chocolate treats from big chain supermarkets, hop along to see the eggsellent folks at Charlotte’s Web.
