Nothing Sweeter than Streeter

It’s no secret we Darwinites and Top Enders have a love affinity with the ocean, but with the Build Up and Wet Season upon us, precious time is running out to enjoy the water. But not just yet.

One of the most luxurious ways to enjoy the Darwin Harbour is on a sunset cruise. It’s a fine way to spend time with family and friends, sampling nibbles and sipping on cool beverages whilst admiring the sights of the sea and our darling city, Darwin.

Streeter Cruises run sunset cruises and charters until mid-December on their historical pearler lugger, Streeter. This 65 foot vessel, built in 1959, was originally part of the Streeter & Male pearling fleet in Broome’s booming pearling industry. It was meticulously restored and won the prestigious Ship’s Bell in 2002, and has been taking passengers around Darwin Harbour ever since.

Streeter owner and operator Chris Naden said he went on a charter five years ago and fell in love with the boat. “I was on there for a mate’s 40th and Streeter came up for sale a couple of months later, so we decided to buy it,” he said.

“I love meeting and chatting with new people. I’ve got a great crewmate in Tanya and the Darwin Harbour is such a nice area to operate in; it’s calm and full of wildlife, like turtles, dolphins and other fish. Passengers are often amazed at how beautiful Darwin really is,” beamed the proud owner.

Streeter supplies plastic plates, cups and cutlery, as well as iced eskies, so all passengers need to bring along are their drinks and nibbles. For a completely stress free cruise, turn it up a notch and let the ladies at Picnic Darwin prepare you one of their homemade PICNICs.

Seas the moment and catch a ride on Streeter – oh buoy, you’ll love it!
