Fannie Bay Gaol Workshop with Mary Anne Butler

Want the opportunity to create a new piece of writing in an inspiring historical setting? Join award-winning Darwin writer Mary-Anne Butler for a creative writing workshop in Darwin’s Fannie Bay Gaol.

NT Writers’ Centre Executive Director Sally Bothroyd says this is the first stage of an exciting two-piece project.

“We’re so excited to have award-winning playwright Mary-Anne Butler on board, and for her to be facilitating the workshop in a space that’s not typical for that sort of thing. But this is the first part,” she says.

“We’re hoping the participants are inspired by the unique historical setting, with the aim to produce a piece of writing to be performed at an evening event held in the Gaol on Halloween.

"The cells are small and there are quite a few of them, so we think the format could work with ticket holders enjoying one intimate performance, having a break to grab a drink, before another performance in the next cell.”

You’ve piqued our interest. Spooky!
