Book Club Trivia
Have you ever been at a trivia night marred by dull sport and geography questions?
Or glib 90s hits whose lines you’ve long forgotten? The NT Writers’ Centre’s literary trivia could be your idea of trivia heaven.
“We’re into books,” confirms centre director Sally Bothroyd, who’s taking on the not unenjoyable task of researching and writing questions.
“So if your table wins you might win various books from publishers like Penguin, Allen & Unwin, Text and Black Inc.”
In Territory style, the centre’s fundraiser is taking place at the Trailer Boat Club, with a complimentary schooner of Cooper’s for each booklover.
The centre is aiming for local book clubs to sign up as a table, but if you’re not in one, think you’d like to be, or just want to be around literary types, there’s definitely a place for you.
“We’re going to raffle off signed books such as Magda Szubanski’s and Richard Glover’s memoirs,” says Bothroyd.
“And it could be a little quirky.”
NT Writers’ Centre board member and performance poet Fred van’t Sand, who is travelling overseas, plans to man a concurrent trivia table all the way from Finland.
For those closer to home, tables of six, eight or 10 can be booked on the centre’s website, and if you’re keen to brush up on book knowledge, questions will cover Australian, International and Northern Territory literature.
“The prizes are all books – unless someone steps in with something more glamorous,” says Bothroyd.
For literature lovers, what prize holds more glamour than a book?
