BANFF Mountain Film Festival

The BANFF Mountain Film Festival – licence to thrill.  You’ll be planning your next adventure before the credits roll, guaranteed.

BANFF is the most prestigious short film competition about mountain culture, sports and environment in the world. Every year it screens 300 films over a one-week festival in Banff, Canada, and follows up with an international tour of the winners, including Darwin’s own Deckchair Cinema in their itinerary.

Over two and a half hours, audiences are in for an incredible ride of soaring highs and agonising lows, experienced through the lenses of some of the most accomplished climbers, paddlers, skiers, snowboarders, mountaineers, mountain bikers, explorers and adventure filmmakers alive today.

This year you’ll run new climbing routes in French Polynesia, take an impossible ride on a mountain bike with skill master Danny MacAskill, join a band of crazy French musicians over a cavernous gorge, and ski remote and untouched slopes in Iran. You’ll hold your breath for a recreation of a world first adventure by a trio of kayakers in the Green and Colorado Rivers, and take a long hike in the desert with canine Genghis Khan and his human companion.

Sure to enthral, BANFF is full of mesmerising cinematography, thought-provoking storylines and adrenalin-inducing action sequences.

Tue 30 & Wed 31 May | 7.30pm | Deckchair Cinema
