Party in Palmy
GET READY, PALMERSTON, because the inaugural Palmerston Youth Festival is here!
To coincide with the July school holidays, the festival presents nine free events to celebrate art, culture, sport, music, gaming, cinema and performing arts. There’s also a bunch of competitions and prizes up for grabs, to encourage young people to get involved and have a good time.
Palmerston Mayor Athena Pascoe-Bell says it’s a festival especially for young people and their families.
"The City of Palmerston is excited to be working with Northern Territory Government on the inaugural Palmerston Youth Festival,” she says.
“We invite young people and their families to join us in Palmerston and enjoy a week jam-packed with events, dedicated to our youth community.”
Geekfest Top End – previously a standalone event for die-hard anime fans – returns to mark the official opening on Sat 13 Jul. This year, attendees can enjoy two new additions – Box Wars and the 3D Chalk Twins.
Other events include live theatre performances, stand-up comedy skits, street art workshops and demonstrations and an Anime-A-Thon movie marathon.
And the fun doesn’t stop there… There’s so much more for festival-goers to do, with a Suburb of Origin 3 On 3 basketball competition, Film Me In video making competition, and even a cooking competition – the Rookie Cooks youth cooking comp, hosted by celebrity foodie adventurer Hayden Quinn, gives aspiring young chefs the chance to win the ultimate foodie day out with Quinn in his hometown of Sydney.
Rounding out the inaugural Palmerston Youth Fest on a high note is the Palmy Street Party. Enjoy an evening of all things street – including art, food, music and dance.
Did we mention Baker Boy will be there? Yes, Baker Boy will be there! The 2019 Young Australian of the Year, award-winning hip hop artist and all-round legend – fondly referred to as The Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land – will headline with support from Caiti Baker and Tasman Keith.
