Q&A: Sounds@Sunset
SOUNDS @ SUNSET IS BRINGING GOOD VIBES TO D-TOWN beaches this Dry.
This month’s young producer Cassandra Wright let us know what we’re in for this month.
What’s the theme for the June?
The theme is Tropical Darwin Vibes. I chose this theme because what better spot than by the beach to welcome the Dry? I really want our beautiful beaches and breath-taking sunsets to do the talking for. By choosing this theme, I think we’re really highlighting the best of Darwin.
Who’s on the line-up?
We have two amazing local solo acts, Kyle Maher and Bella Maree, and a band from Darwin High School, Open Scars. I’m really excited to have such amazing local talent on board. All of the artists have beautiful sounds and are a great representation of Darwin’s chilled-out vibe.
Why did you get involved with the Sounds @ Sunset Project?
I have always loved working in events, but have usually been front-of-house – I wanted to be more involved on the producing side of events. This program has really helped me understand and learn about the events industry, and what it’s like to co-ordinate and produce my own events.
What have been the most helpful things you’ve learnt?
I was very nervous heading into the Sounds @ Sunset program as I wasn’t sure what to expect from it or what our roles would be.
Mentors Amy Hetherington and Lisa Burnett have been a huge help in teaching us skills within the industry. We’ve learnt so much about how to MC our own events, sound tech, how to approach talent and the fundamentals of events producing.
If you could program any performer, living or dead, for S @ S, whowould it be and why?
Sticky Fingers. I love their music – they have a chill vibe and they would be awesome at Sounds @ Sunset.
