Untitled Gallery and Studio
The Untitled Gallery And Studio is Darwin Community Art’s brand new accessible community visual arts space in Coconut Grove.
Amina McConvell had a yarn with Off The Leash about what makes the space so unique.
How does the space differ to others in the Top End?
Untitled is a unique art space because it’s a combined studio and gallery, which is an exhibition space and an active workshop space, and these aspects flow into each other.
It’s a community space that we hope will provide an inclusive crea-tive environment where community members can cross pollinate one another’s ideas and projects.
How are you creating a sense of community through art at the space?
We have the community studio which is available to hire for community members for creative projects, meetings and other events and gatherings.
The studio is home to the Free Space Studio arts and disability collective. They are in the studio Wednesdays to Fridays getting creative and cultivating the good energy!
And there is also Undirected Art Space, which is a drop in creative space from 2-5pm every Friday, super casual and open to everyone and anyone.
So if you ever feel like you need a little minute for your creativity, or just to play with a pet art project and a space would help you do that - then pop along on Fridays!
What were you looking for when programming Untitled?
The exhibition program strives to be inclusive of all artists including: people of all communities, cultures, abilities, ages, sexuality, and faiths.
We are really open to anything – all artforms, experimental work, works-in-progress, curatorial proposals, emerging artists and community projects. We are keen to support artists, curators and communities to show their work and test their ideas – and Untitled Gallery and Studio is a great place to do that.
