Music for All
ROUND UP THE kids and head to Darwin Entertainment Centre for an interactive musical adventure with Darwin Symphony Orchestra. Designed to spark intrigue in classical music in children and adults alike, Family Proms is a visual, aural and tactile experience for the whole fam.
“It’s just lots of fun, lots of silliness, lots of audience participation. It’s a total introduction to symphony orchestras for children,” says DSO’s Artistic Director and Chief Conductor, Jonathan Tooby.
Experience unique insight into how a symphony orchestra works – especially exciting for those who may not have seen one play live before – with plenty of instrument demonstrations as well audience interaction, sing-alongs, and engaging discussions about the feelings that music can evoke. There’s also the opportunity to see the orchestra up close in a special walk through on stage while the musicians are performing.
“Everyone deserves the opportunity to see what an orchestra does and it [Family Proms] is making it available to everyone,” says Tooby.
“It definitely breaks down a lot of the stigma attached to orchestras, which is that they’re elite and you can only go if you wear a black tie and earn a million bucks. There’s none of that. It’s music.”
With classical faves, such as Radetzky March, designed to get you up and bopping around, this is one classical music concert where you can really let your hair down. By the end, you definitely won’t see a symphony orchestra the same way again!
