The Fast Five – Glitoris
GLITORIS ARE A FOUR-PIECE punk rock band from Canberra, and they’re kicking off their national tour in the NT, including a special International Women’s Day gig at The Rails in Darwin.
Band members Malcolm, Scott, Keven 007 and Andrew – named after Aussie Prime Ministers – answered The Fast Five for us.
What’s the first album you ever bought?
Keven 007: True Blue and Like a Prayer by Madonna – double sided cassette, baby!
Malcolm: My first vinyl was The Bangles, my first cassette tape was Madonna and my first CD was Tumbleweed. I’m going to assume they were all self-titled because I can’t remember the title, only the cover.
Andrew: Pretty sure it was Madonna. Can’t remember!
Scott: Have a Nice Day by Bon Jovi. So random, and perhaps a little cringe but that’s the truth!
If you could see any artist or band – living or dead – this weekend, who would it be?
Keven 007: Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of The War of the Worlds, with full orchestra and alien warcraft.
Malcolm: Rage Against the Machine. I’m super-stoked they have reformed and really hope they come to Australia.
Andrew: Gotta agree with Malcolm on this one. Right now, we’re all dying to see Rage Against the Machine.
Scott: Rage Against The Machine, in solidarity with Malcolm & Andrew!
Whose posters did you have stuck to the wall as a teenager?
Keven 007: Leonardo DiCaprio, 90210, Girlfriend, Bowie and H.R. Giger!
Malcolm: I had a Led Zeppelin poster and a Nirvana poster on my wall.
Andrew: Mainly guitarists – Jimi Hendrix, Dave Navarro, Tom Morello and Daron Malakian from System of a Down. Jerry Cantrell. Johnny Greenwood. I covered my school books in posters of Brian May.
Scott: Bon Jovi! I was obsessed with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora as a young teen. Kiss and Peter Criss (Kiss' drummer), Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Avril Lavigne (OMG!) and Taylor Hawkins from Foo Fighters. I also had posters included in my subscription to Drum Scene magazine, including Cindy Blackman (drummer for Lenny Kravitz), Sheila E (Prince!) and master session drummer Virgil Donati.
What song would you like played at your funeral?
Keven 007: ‘I’ll Be Seeing You’ – Billie Holiday
Malcolm: ‘Waterfall’ – Jimi Hendrix
Andrew: ‘I Won’t Back Down’ – Tom Petty
Scott: ‘Morning Has Broken’ – Cat Stevens
Finish this sentence. The thing people would be surprised to know about me…
Keven 007: Coat hangers really stress me out.
Malcolm: I can be introverted and pretty shy most of the time.
Andrew: I’m a massive snooker fan.
Scott: I absolutely LOVE reading esoteric books exploring topics such as the workings of the Universe, the subconscious mind, past lives, metaphysics, energy, space, extra-terrestrial beings… Honestly anything goes and the weirder it is, the better!
