The Fast Five - REMI

HIP-HOP DUO REMI are working their way from the top to the bottom of Australia for their only headline tour of 2019. Remi Kolawole and Sensible J are treating fans, old and new, when they kick it off in Darwin this month.

Kolawole answered The Fast Five for us.

What’s the first album you ever bought?
Usher’s Live Evolution 8701. I bought it on CD – wish it was wax. I’m pretty sure I bought it from Sanity in Westfield Southland. I vividly remember bumping it in the car with my dad on a drive to Canberra. Usher swore. I froze. Dad let it slide. I continued singing at the top of my lungs. Revisited it just last week. Do not regret a cent.

If you could see any artist or band – living or dead – this weekend, who would it be?
70s James Brown with the original J.B.’s. The originators of so many styles. It would be a clinic. An existential crisis. An out-of-body experience. I still scream out loud at his live performances when I’m by myself.

Whose posters did you have stuck to the wall as a teenager?
I actually didn’t have posters stuck on my walls growing up. I do now have a holographic poster of Redman’s Dare Iz A Darkside. So I’m making up for lost time, no doubt.

What song would you like played at your funeral?
I would like D’Angelo’s ‘Voodoo’ played front to back.

Finish this sentence. The thing people would be surprised to know about me… Is that I’ve recently found the benefits of having plants in your house. I truly love those little bastards.
