Tex Perkins and Matt Walker
After 20 years of friendship and mutual admiration Tex Perkins and Matt Walker are taking the stage in Darwin as a duo, and fans are in for a wild ride spanning Perkins’ full career.

The pair will perform a set of the new music they’ve been working on, mingled with Perkins’ back catalogue, including music made with The Cruel Sea, Beasts of Bourbon, The Dark Horses and Tex, Don and Charlie.
“It’ll be a bit of everything, so expect to be taken on rollercoaster ride of emotions,” Perkins says.
Perkins and Walker first worked together on The Man in Black in 2010, and discovered they shared a lot of similar tastes.
“If someone forced me, I’d have to say we really are quite a dynamic duo. But I’d never say that,” Perkins says.
They started writing music together a couple of years ago, and are taking their time to produce an album — something Perkins has rarely had the luxury of but is excited by.
Their upcoming show is described as “blues swamp groove”, blending wood and metal sounds.
“It’s an acoustic sound but it’s also a dirty sound,” Perkins says.
“Well, actually a ‘dirt’ sound. Not 'big city' dirty, more like 'out in the country' dirt. Dirt with grass and leaves and s--t, y’know? Matt and I will be doing some of that stuff, but also some softer, sweeter, sadder sort of stuff as well.”
“I’m very lucky I get to do what I love,” he says.
“…After losing Spencer and Brian last year, the realisation that we’re not going to be around much longer really hits home and you try to hang onto every second of joy you can — and play some intensely powerful rock ‘n’ roll with people you love.”
