The Fast Five – Scott Murphy
Scott Murphy moved to Darwin from Melbourne seven years ago to join Dr Elephant, started his own band, The Fame Junkies, four years ago, and has toured the world with his partner Chrissa in original hard rock outfit Valanti.
He’s supported a variety of touring bands in Darwin, including Guy Sebastian, Diesel, Leo Sayer, Macy Gray, and Choirboys; and he plays the best songs ever written three to four nights a week around Darwin. He answered the Fast Five for Off The Leash.
What’s the first album you ever bought?
It was Nevermind on CD from Sanity Doncaster. It was $29.99 of my parents’ money – possibly the most crucial bucks I’ve ever spent. It changed my life. Dad had (Guns ‘n’ Roses) Appetite For Destruction and Johnny Diesel on cassette which got a flogging also.
If you could see any artist or band – living or dead – this weekend, who would it be?
Led Zeppelin or the Stones because I’ve seen most of the bands I’ve needed to in concert already!
Whose posters did you have stuck to the wall as a teenager? Do you still have them?
Our parents’ basement where we rehearsed 25 years ago is still wall to wall with band posters… you name the band and there would be a poster or flyer of some sort!
What song would you like played at your funeral?
‘Raining Blood’ by Slayer, to lighten the mood, or maybe ‘Orion’ by Metallica.
Finish this sentence. The thing people would be surprised to know about me…is I was Australia’s youngest junior black belt in Taekwondo at the age of nine.
