NIMAs Nominations and Performers Announced
Hip-hop super star Baker Boy and late music legend Gurrumul have led this year’s National Indigenous Music Award nominations.
Both Top End artists are up for three awards, followed by Jessica Mauboy, Dan Sultan, Alice Skye, Kardajala Kirridarra and Emily Wurramara who are each up for two awards.
Baker Boy will be back on stage performing at the awards ceremony on August 11 after his solo show at the Darwin Festival on August 10. The nominations cap off a huge weekend for the young performer who took out three awards at the NT Song of the Year Awards for his tracks ‘Marryuna’ and ‘Mr La Di Da Di’, which took out the top gong.
Hopefully it's a good sign for his NIMAs chances with nominations for Best New Talent, Song of the Year and Film Clip of the Year for his hit track 'Marryuna', which cracked Triple J’s Hottest 100 top 20 this year.
Gurrumul’s album Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow) made history when it became the first album in an indigenous language to top the ARIA chart in April and is up for Album of the Year. The title track is in the running for Song of the Year and Gurrumul is once again a favourite for Artist of the Year.
