Lachlan Grant
With his seamless blend of rock, roots and folk, laid back adventurer Lachlan Grant creates the perfect soundtrack for the Dry season. The dreadlocked crooner has recently started a house band and is expecting a very busy festival season. Lachlan took a break from the Dry season madness for a chat with MusicNT.
For those that haven't heard of Lachlan Grant before what is your music like?
I am passionate about writing story-style songs that convey depth and meaning while approaching ideas such as love, fear, protest and introspection. Music has become an outlet through which I have learned to channel my emotions. I embrace it as my opportunity to say whatever I want to whoever I want. My songs are experiments in creativity and represent a reflection of my thoughts and feelings.
You've travelled a lot, how would you say that has affected your music and songwriting?
Life is a journey. I have spent time travelling around Australia, Japan and North America. Moving into unfamiliar environments, I have been exposed to many alternate ways of life. I have discovered similarities in forms of energy and as an artist nothing is more inspiring and creatively fulfilling. My belief in music has motivated all of my travels, and I do not like to move on until I have written a different sounding song.
Tell us about your house band?
Lachlan Grant & Splendour will be performing as a trio with Joel Osbourne on drums and Joe Arthur on bass. We play story-style songs crafted around grooving rhythm, driving bass, explicit guitar work and passionate vocals. Come on down to the Chippo! You will be welcomed, served and musically satisfied on a Red Hot and Blue Sunday afternoon.
What are the plans for Lachlan Grant for the rest of the year?
Performing regularly throughout the Dry season, preparing to release a new single and music video, and building our brand and band profile. We intend to submit performance applications for 2017 Australian music festivals and begin touring our music wherever possible.
