OCTOBER BUSINESS MONTH (OBM) is back with some of Australia’s most accomplished entrepreneurs headlining this year’s program.
OBM is the Northern Territory’s premier annual business event, providing access to a month-long program of inspirational and educational events designed to inspire and grow Territory business.
Following the theme of ‘Embracing Change’, the program explores how local businesses can adapt to rapidly changing technologies, shifting market demands and evolving workplace dynamics.
This year’s keynote program features four flagship events across the Territory, with keynote speakers Renee Wootton Tomlin, Rochelle Courtenay, Brett Blake, and Adam Jacobs.
The program also includes a special business dinner in Katherine, featuring stand-up comedian Brett Blake, providing the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the K-Town business community following this year’s floods. Dragonfly Events owner and operator Teagan Peirce also shares how embracing change means being open to new technology and finding practical ways to use it within her business.
“Tools such as AI and digital quoting systems have helped me streamline administrative work, improve communication, and reduce the amount of time I spend tied to a desk,” Peirce says.
Peirce hosts a Territory Success Stories panel with Brett Blake where she shares how Dragonfly Events began, and what it takes to deliver catering, party hire and event services across Katherine and some of the most remote parts of the Territory.
“This includes working in locations where there may be limited access to power, water, supplies or last-minute support, so careful planning and the ability to think on your feet is essential. We’ll also discuss resilience, adapting to changing circumstances, recognising gaps in the local market, and learning to anticipate what will be needed to get the job done,” she says.
“I hope people come away with an honest insight into the realities of running a regional business, including the hard work, mistakes, challenges and humour that are all part of the journey.”
OBM creates an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day demands of running a business to exchange ideas, and learn from people who understand the realities of running a business in the NT.
“It will be valuable to hear about the challenges others have faced, the changes they have embraced and the decisions that have helped their businesses move forward. I’m also looking forward to sharing my own experiences and hopefully contributing something useful to those conversations,” Peirce says.
