A Beary Fun Day

If you go down to Darwin Esplanade today, you’re sure of a big surprise… The beary wonderful City of Darwin Teddy Bears’ Picnic is back!

Darwin Festival has again teamed up with City of Darwin to present this full day of fun by the seaside for the little ones, big ones, and their beary good buddies.

Darwin Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis says they’re excited to again team up with the Festival for this much-loved Sunday fun day.

“City of Darwin has supported this iconic event for many years and is delighted to support it again this year. I wish every family in Darwin could make it to this beautiful event on the Esplanade, it is always such a great day, especially for the little ones,” he says.

“My kids might think they are too old for this now… but there is entertainment for the grown-ups, too, and I can certainly take my grandson!”

Darwin Festival Artistic Director Felix Preval says it creates special memories for many Top Ender families.

“Teddy Bear’s Picnic holds a special place in the hearts of people across Darwin because it's been a highlight of the Festival for over 30 years, which means we’ve now got people who came along as a child, returning with their own families for a day of fun. Today’s Teddy Bears’ Picnickers are tomorrow’s Territory leaders – and Darwin Festival audiences!”

This year, treat your ears to the songs of Territory musician Sally Balfour and alt-country superstar Fanny Lumsden. Be amazed by Hyper the Clown, on hand to deliver some of her special magic tricks, and enjoy Drag Queen Storytime, fairies, bubbles, (biodegradable) balloon art, and so much more.
