Baker Boy headlines Arafura Games celebration line-ups

Music fans are in for a treat when the Arafura Games return with a huge line-up of entertainment for the opening and closing celebrations.

To kick off the celebrations hip-hop powerhouse Baker Boy will be joined by local favourites Shellie Morris and Leah Flanagan for the opening on Friday April 26.

The strong indigenous line-up continues with a performance by the NT Dance Company Led by Larrakia man Gary Lang as part of a special welcome.

“To be asked to be a part of the Arafura Games – it’s my first time, and I’m sure it won’t be my last – it’s just a straight-out honour to be working with (artistic director) Ben Graetz and the crew," Lang says.

"I thought it was a really great opportunity to look outside the norm."

The closing ceremony will see Morris and Flanagan return to the stage, joined by Stevie Jean and with Skinnyfish Sound System sure to get the crowds pumping on Saturday May 4.

Artistic director Ben Graetz, an award-winning Iwaidja/Malak Malak and Badu Island man, says he was thrilled to pull together such a strong line-up of locals for the celebrations.

“We have a strong NT representation in the celebrations made up of many different local artists, community and cultural groups, including a close working relationship with the local Larrakia community,” he says.
